Since 2020, I’ve served as CTO & CIO at Sequoia Capital China, leading the transition from traditional IT to an AI-native operating model.
I rebuilt the technology organization from 4 to 40+ engineers, supported by 45+ external consultants, and re-architected internal systems so that data, search, and workflows are LLM-ready by design.
I led early adoption of LLMs and autonomous agents across the investment lifecycle, spanning sourcing, due diligence, research, and post-investment management. This included structured data refactoring, semantic search, and autonomous research agents that synthesize internal and external data into actionable insights.
These systems enabled the investment team to manage 80+ subsectors and operate a new billion-dollar fund without adding headcount, while materially improving decision speed and institutional memory.
AWS Professional Services
Prior to Sequoia, I worked at AWS Professional Services, leading high-stakes enterprise transformations across finance, manufacturing, airlines, and consumer industries.
As DevOps Practice Manager in Greater China, I owned mission-critical engagements and translated executive objectives into scalable cloud and DevOps strategies. The programs and accounts I led contributed to ~70% of regional bookings and ~50% of revenue, supported by ~37% of the delivery headcount, driven by long-term customer trust and repeat engagements.
Foundations in Large-Scale Systems
Earlier in my career, I built mission-critical, high-throughput systems at AWS and Bloomberg, processing terabytes of data per hour, handling hundreds of millions of events per second, and contributing to #1 market-share trading platforms.
This background shapes how I build AI systems today: reliability-first, performance-aware, and designed to scale from day one.

Also improving R&D efficiency by setup DevOps mechanism for both Dev and Ops team, helping improve code quality for Dev team and automate Ops team’s daily task as much as possible.
▪ [2018 Nov, Galanz, Engagement Manager] Help Galanz to build IoT platform. By enabling customer’s junior developers and recently onboarded architecture, setup DevOps mechanism, designing the IoT client interface and server API interactions are the two major components for IoT platform. Such platform enabled Galanz’s fridge interaction with their customers, collecting necessary data that would be used for future business intelligence, and launched in Chinese New Year 2019., Help large enterprise optimizing their application on the cloud by utilizing micro service architecture and DevOps
Enterprise and internet company may suffer performance degradation and performance bottom neck issues when they moved to cloud. Some of them would love to transform their system by using micro services. I’ve lead three successful deliverables within 5 months and barely has no ramp up period, which benefited from my previous experience in Amazon Web Service.
▪ [2017 July, Haier, Engagement Manager and Delivery Consultant]. Use Amazon Alexa, AWS IoT and AWS lambda services, helping Haier, one of the largest customer appliance company built an intelligence fridge and demonstrated on IFA exhibition.
▪ [2017 September, Samsung, Delivery Consultant] Helped Samsung, one of the large global enterprises to consult their TV IT system from Infrastructure, Microservices architecture and DevOps. By comparing with Amazon.com and Netflix, Help them built up the roadmap to the next stage.
▪ [2017 Nov, China Southern Airline, Delivery Consultant] Helped the customer to rebuild their oversea booking system with AWS Lambda, a serverless system. This rebuilding includes Microservices architecture, CI/CD pipeline and automation testing system. The performance improved more than 30 times compared with existing system.
▪ [2018 Feb, Security Broker, Delivery Consultant] Helped a large security company to perform DevOps assessment, with their improvements findings, designed the roadmap of their DevOps road. Also designed an on-premise DevOps platform so that this customer could build in their own IDC.
▪ [2018 March, China Express Airline, Delivery Consultant] Helped another airline company to optimize their internal systems, including microservice optimization, performance optimization and architecture optimization., Lead a data stream team, which is part of the AWS Bill Generation pipeline.
The major ownership of my team is global AWS user usage data aggregation (Terabytes per hour), user account data processing (3.6M accounts), user subscription data processing (9B entries) as well as product pricing information processing (200M entries). Updating those information for every 8 hours. The major challenge is performance and scalability.
Another part of the ownership is the dynamic computation pipeline. We compute the bill of the product that may have a dynamic pricing, we are working to make it more generic with different type of pricing purpose.
Lead the project of improving usage aggregation pipeline. Reduced usage processing speed from 50 mins for every hour to 30 mins for every hour. And improved robustness of the system.
Lead the project of MAWS account computation, the biggest account we couldn’t even compute for a while. Reduced the account data gathering speed from 45 mins to 12 mins.
Co-lead the project of database migration. Migrated management database from MySQL to Aurora, by spreading the DB to three Slaves/Replicas to make database supporting 10x traffic than before.
Lead the project of dynamic price computation, re-design the computation work flow to take more generic dynamic price computation request.
Expanding the team to an operational size within a short term period, mentoring developers to grow both soft skills as well as hard skill., Working on the AWS commerce platform for computing more than 3 Million AWS customers’ bill every 6 hours. Our group handled 135M usage event generated from all AWS services over the world every second, and calculate hundreds of AWS product usage type for all AWS customers by using existing AWS infrastructure to scale up computation capacity.
Selected Projects:
Re-work the computation module by reducing the memory footprint over 50%, make it is possible to compute the biggest account MAWS, which couldn’t be handled by the system before.
Led the rework of existing dynamic pricing computation from gathering business requirement to deliver. Negotiate with all on boarding service team for business requirement and upper management level for resources.
Applied existing AWS product Kinesis Stream, Simple Message Queue, Dynamo DB and S3 to support large scale (135 Million events per second) big data (Terabyte data usage data per hour) computation.
Designed and setup a new performance stack for the whole workflow of bill computation with coordinate cross different teams, resource allocation and resource aggregation. (as developer owner)
