I also helped shape Capital One’s global strategy for recruiting and training data scientists, acted as a “near” Model Risk Officer, was the accountable executive for the credit card business in SF, and regularly advised corporate development and Capital One Ventures on big data, AI, ML and data science investments and acquisitions., Helped define data science at Capital One, focusing on the biggest hardest machine learning problem there: Building our own real-time transaction fraud defense.
Highlights: Recruited and led a team of ~25 data scientists in SF, DC and NYC. Designed and built a transactional fraud model and moved it into the credit card business. Built models and systems to optimize credit decisions for small business loans, and to use geolocational information in commercial underwriting. Acted as a critical SME for the definition of the “Data Science” job family, hired many (10+) senior data scientists across the company. Sat on the leadership team of Capital One Labs, and jointly responsible for (then new) SF site leadership.
