Sunil M. Top Executive

Director Strategic Planning at Australian Government

Current Job Duration: 5 yrs 10 mos (until March 2026)

HEADLINE:
Director I Engineer I 25+ years international leadership experience in private & Public sectors

PERSONAL SUMMARY:
I am a Strategic Executive and Chemical Engineer with over 25 years of global experience navigating the complexities of high-risk, multi-billion-dollar environments. My career is defined by a unique "bridge" capability: the ability to translate technical engineering precision into high-level government policy and commercial strategy.

Currently, as a Director within the Australian Public Sector, I lead the de-risking of a massive infrastructure portfolio across a jurisdiction twice the size of Texas. From spearheading the 960km gas pipeline project to driving the National Infrastructure Decarbonisation (IDWG) agenda, I specialise in ensuring that critical energy and transport assets are operationally efficient, fiscally responsible, and aligned with net-zero commitments.

My expertise is built on a foundation of international leadership, including:
Energy & Petrochemicals: Over a decade at Sasol, (a major international integrated chemicals and energy company) managing complex brownfield operations and vertical integration, earning multiple CEO and SVP awards for project execution.
Global Infrastructure: Spearheading the pre-feed package for a $24B LNG and Methanol plant in Türkiye.
Operational Excellence: Implementing Toyota Production Systems (TPS) and Lean principles to turn around struggling business units and optimise resource allocation.

I thrive at the intersection of energy security, sustainable development, and capital governance. I am a trusted advisor and known for delivering "licence to operate" imperatives amidst challenging regulatory landscapes.

I'm a member of the Energy Club NT, an industry body for the energy and resources sector in the Northern Territory.
