Isabel Dedring Leaders
I am responsible for the development of Arup’s global transport business, working with national, regional and city transport authorities around the world to explore how they can offer their citizens the transport and mobility futures they need. In 2019 I became a member of Arup’s group board, which guides our global business. My board responsibilities include oversight of Arup’s foresight, research and innovation, and learning and development programmes. I also serve on our region board overseeing our work in the UK, India, Middle East and Africa (UKIMEA).
In my nearly 20 years in the transport industry, my focus has been on how transport can drive better outcomes for all our users and for society. This includes designing and delivering cycling infrastructure programmes, large-scale rollout of low-emission technologies, and dramatically improving how we use our existing transport assets. It includes finding innovative ways of funding and financing transport schemes that make public transport and active travel more easily deliverable for cities around the world. And it is about harnessing new technologies and the explosion of data to crack well-worn transport problems, for example, of equity and access.
Before joining Arup, I spent over ten years at the Greater London Authority (GLA), where my roles included 5 years as Deputy Mayor for Transport and Deputy Chair of Transport for London. Prior to joining the GLA, I held senior roles at Transport for London. Earlier in my career I worked for management consultancies, McKinsey and EY.
I enjoy getting involved in wider debate and influence across our industry and beyond. Some of my current roles in that capacity include my current role as Chair of the CBI London Council, as an advisor to the NIC and member of the NIC Design Task Force, as part of the Ministerial Future of Mobility Panel, and as a Visiting Professor at UCL.
