John M. Griffin Leaders
I'm John Griffin (or Professor Griffin, depending how we know each other). As the James A. Elkins Centennial Chair in Finance at the University of Texas at Austin, I specialize in uncovering the role of potentially illegal, illicit, or immoral actions in financial markets. My research spans a wide range of topics, including cryptocurrencies, the Paycheck Protection Program, the 2008-2009 financial crisis, market manipulation, and online romance scams (also known as "pig butchering"). I'm grateful to have had more than 35 papers published in top finance and economics journals, and that my work is used to influence policymaking. My academic journey includes teaching investments, international finance, and asset pricing at McCombs since 2004, along with visiting professorships at Harvard Business School, Yale School of Management, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
