Jennifer Ulrich Leaders
I am a computer scientist and physician with extensive experience leading large research efforts and developing innovative techniques, methodologies, AI algorithms, and software systems to support integrative data analyses, digital microscopy, high-performance computing, data management, and data federation. My work includes leading AI projects and developing deep learning pipelines to address applications that encompass gigapixel imaging datasets. The pipelines address a variety of application requirements and target several categories of gigapixel images drawn from anatomic pathology, microscopy tissue studies, Radiology studies along with sensor and satellite data. My work also encompasses analyses to associate Pathology image derived information with genomics, patient outcome and treatment response.
I have developed methods to support edge computing, database methods that use spatial indexing and clustering/de-clustering methods to optimize I/O in clusters and parallel machines and innovative Hilbert space filling curve methods.
Earlier in my career I developed innovative compiler and runtime high end computing systems software that broke new ground in data science, which has been applied in sensor data analysis, petroleum exploration, computational chemistry, and aerospace.
I have founded/built three highly successful Departments of Biomedical Informatics (Ohio State, Emory, Stony Brook) and served on the Computer Science faculties at Yale and University of Maryland. I am a board certified Clinical Pathologist and completed my residency in Clinical Pathology at Johns Hopkins University.
I earned my MD and PhD in Computer Science from Duke and completed my BS and MA at Michigan. I am boarded in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Informatics
