PERSONAL SUMMARY:
Mark Johnson is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of leadership experience in technology, sales, and government roles. He is currently the Vice President of Defense and Intelligence Technology at IBM, leading strategic initiatives in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore Area. He is also a board member at the AFCEA DC Chapter, where he helps bridge the gap between industry and government in understanding emerging technology and its applicability to the mission.
Before joining IBM, Mark held several senior leadership positions at Oracle. He played a crucial role in launching and growing the Oracle Government Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service and led the US Defense Applications business development. Mark has served in product and services leadership roles, driving innovative solutions in Big Data, Hybrid Cloud, and Cyber Security. He co-founded an IT business where he led development and that was acquired by Microsoft.
Mark's career began in the US Navy, where he was a Test Pilot and eventually served as the Commanding Officer for an F/A-18 Hornet Fighter squadron that earned both the 'Battle E' and 'Safety S,' the highest awards that a US Navy squadron can receive. He also held several positions inside the Beltway working with industry and international partners to deliver improved US and coalition warfighting capability.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mark is an active volunteer in his community. He served as an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America for seven years and as a Board Member for The Society of Experimental Test Pilots East Coast Chapter. He lives in Northern Virginia with his family and enjoys recreational flying, live music, and boating on the Chesapeake.
Mark holds a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Davis and a Master's in Aviation Systems Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He is also a US Naval Test Pilot School graduate.
