Liopa is an organization that specializes in automated lip reading technology. Founded in 2015, Liopa has commercialized over 15 years of research in speech and image processing from Queen's University Belfast. Their innovative technology uses AI and deep learning to decipher speech from lip movements alone. Liopa is the first company to release commercially available Visual Speech Recognition (VSR) technology, with their SRAVI app being the first application. SRAVI is a smartphone app that helps patients who have lost the ability to speak communicate with their loved ones and carers by analyzing their lip movements. The app is currently being trialled in Intensive Care units within the NHS.
